I&#039;ve provided a couple of links above that should provide you with some answers.   The 2nd link covered the topic of sealing.   Maybe it will help you make the decision. 
A thought that first came to mind was maybe you could contact the contractor or business where the travertine was purchased.   I imagine they would have cleaning guidelines.
